My experience of Chinese art, culture and history during an art residency in China - Silk Road Artists' Rendezvous - China Tour for European Artists, provided me with inspiration to create artworks at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. I was allocated a studio space, where I created two oil paintings, 120cm x 90cm each canvas. One I titled ‘Beijing’ and the other I titled ‘Chongqing’. I created conceptualised environments, reactions to the places I had visited. I wanted to construct environments of my own experiences in China. I intended to make memory maps with a juxtaposition of places that were meaningful to me and that brought back personal memories.
